Expats Newsletter Winter 2011/2012

Dear Sir, Dear Madam,

As a Fribourg native who has spent many years working in the Lake Geneva Region, I am struck by how globally well-connected companies in the canton are and how international their workforce is. The Fribourg Development Agency has long appreciated the importance of this international workforce, publishing its first Expatriates Guide to Fribourg back in 2002. It is therefore with great pleasure that I announce the launch of the newly revised, updated, and redesigned guide.

Happy reading!

Annual Fribourg Expat Event

Expat Guide Event

The Gutenberg Museum was the venue for this year’s Fribourg Expat Event on Wednesday, 16 November. More than 60 members of the expatriate community attended, taking the opportunity to renew old acquaintances, share their experiences with recent arrivals, and generally spend an enjoyable evening out. At the end of the event, everyone received a copy of the latest edition of the Expatriates Guide to Fribourg.

3 December 2011: St. Nicholas Parade, Fribourg
The Festival of St. Nicholas is nearly as old as Fribourg itself. Late in the afternoon of the first Saturday in December, St. Nicholas, who is accompanied by his trusty, though somewhat menacing, helper, “Père Fouettard” in French or “Schmutzli” in Swiss German, makes his way through the streets of Fribourg, distributing gingerbread cookies to the waiting children. On reaching the cathedral, he offers the crowd below his own take on events of the past year.

9-11 December 2011: Christmas market, Murten
Murten’s old town is the perfect setting for a Christmas market. Surrounded by a sea of twinkling lights and lanterns, the aroma of regional Christmas specialties wafting in the air, and the lovingly handcrafted items on display, you can’t fail to get in to the holiday spirit!

With over 200 exhibitors, you are sure to find that one-of-a-kind piece you’ve been looking for. A real treasure trove for amateur and serious collectors alike.
